Milito marvels at 'dream night' (10 Feb 2006 00:53 GMT)
Diego Milito was the man largely responsible for what will surely prove one of the most eye-catching scorelines of the season; Real Zaragoza 6-1 Real Madrid CF.
Zaragoza's cup pedigree is the envy of many top-flight rivals. They have claimed the Copa del Rey on six occasions, and even knocked out the mighty FC Barcelona in the previous round, but the sheer scale of last night's semi-final first-leg victory at La Romareda illustrated football's endless capacity to surprise. Madrid had been in fine form in recent weeks but Milito scored four times to make sure their resurgence came to an emphatic end.
On loan this season from Italian side Genoa 1893, the 26-year-old Milito began his career at Racing Club in his native Argentina before heading to Italy. The name Milito was already familiar to Zaragoza fans; Diego's younger brother Gabriel has been an integral part of their defence for the past two-and-a-half seasons, featuring in the side which defeated Madrid in the 2003/04 Copa del Rey final.
The elder Milito has already scored eleven league goals and six in the cup this season, but is refusing to get too carried away with next week's second leg in Madrid to come: "You never know with Madrid - we have to respect them after all they've done. I've never scored four goals in one game, and every one of them I owe to the team's efforts. To score four goals against Madrid - and being so close to the final - makes it a dream night. It was incredible, and I'm sure the crowd is proud of the team." Zaragoza coach Víctor Mu?oz added: "We've nearly touched perfection. The level of each player was extraordinary, both defensively and offensively, and we played the perfect game."
