Ruggeri returns to San Lorenzo job (11 Feb 2006 16:07 GMT)

Ex-Argentina captain Oscar Ruggeri is taking charge of San Lorenzo as coach for a second time.

Ruggeri has agreed terms for a one-year contract, the Argentine club have said on their official website.

He will be assisted by Sergio Batista, like Ruggeri a member of Argentina's 1986 World Cup-winning side.

Ruggeri, popularly known as "Big Head", will return to the San Lorenzo dugout for the visit to champions Boca Juniors on February 19.

A former San Lorenzo defender who inspired the club to the Clausura championship in 1995, Ruggeri made his coaching debut with them in 1999 and stayed until 2001.

The 44-year-old replaces Gustavo Alfaro, who left by mutual consent after last Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Independiente. Alfaro had been in the job for seven months.

San Lorenzo have taken only one point from their three matches in the Clausura championship that started last month.

The much-travelled Ruggeri played for Boca Juniors, River Plate, Spanish clubs Logrones and Real Madrid, Italy's Ancona, America of Mexico, Velez Sarsfield, San Lorenzo and Lanus.

Ruggeri has also coached in Mexico and Spain.
