Manchester United are eyeing several of Villarreal's European stars ahead of the summer market.
United chief scout Martin Ferguson was in Spain last night to see Villarreal scrape through to the final eight of the Champions League against Rangers.
While his priority was Juan Roman Riquelme, Ferguson also saw Argentina international fullback Gonzalo Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is fast emerging as one of the hottest young defensive talents in Europe and is being considered by United as skipper Gary Neville's long-term successor.
