Villarreal's Argentine international central defender Gonzalo Rodriguez is out for the rest of the season after snapping ligaments in his left ankle, the club confirmed on Sunday.
Gonzalo suffered the injury in the club's 1-0 defeat at Spanish league leaders Barcelona on Friday.
"He will need three weeks of absolute rest and then another month of recuperation," said Villarreal doctor Juan Albors.
The injury also ends Gonzalo's hopes of being included in Argentina's World Cup squad.
