Sorin and Argentina fear failure (18 May 2006 13:31 GMT)

Juan Pablo Sorin says the fear of failure is driving Argentina's bid to win this summer's World Cup.

Albicelestes arrived at the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea as one of the favourites but failed to make it out of the group stages. And Villarreal fullback Sorin is determined that will not happen again in Germany.

He said: "We must be 23 brothers. Our main aim is to succeed in the group stage. Then I hope we can play a wonderful World Cup. We must learn from the mistakes committed in the past and make sure we do not repeat them."

Another player determined to impress but for a different reason is Internazionale striker Julio Cruz. He was left out in 2002 by then coach Marcelo Bielsa, but this time Cruz was a surprise inclusion in the squad and is desperate to make the most of his opportunity.

"If you analyse what everybody thought in Argentina, nobody believed I would be selected. That's why I want to thank Jose Pekerman for trusting in me. I'm delighted, because I lived a different situation four years ago," he said. "This is payback for me. I won it thanks to my hard work and sacrifice in the last eight or nine months."
