Aimar and Riquelme confident about Argentina World Cup squad (26 May 2006 16:46 GMT)
Valencia midfielder Pablo Aimar is delighted with the team spirit of the players named by Pekerman.
"The most important value in this squad is that there are a lot of friends," Aimar said. "And everybody involved in football knows that is difficult to achieve. The group is perfect for the World Cup."
Pekerman handled 16 of the 23 players as youngsters, guiding them to three Youth World Cups in 1995, 1997 and 2001 and Aimar claims this is "a great advantage" for the team.
"He knows us not only in football aspects but also in terms of personality, so the group becomes strong in that aspect too," Aimar added. "I don't know too many coaches who know their players as well as Pekerman."
Riquelme is also happy with the Argentina squad and believes they have the class to go all the way.
"We always go to the World Cups with good teams, good players and this is a group with high-quality players and it makes me feel confident about the future," Riquelme said. "This Argentinian squad fills me with confidence and the fans have the same belief."
