Valencia hits Ayala with disciplinary charge (14 Aug 2006 13:17 GMT)
Valencia opened disciplinary charges against its Argentine central defender Roberto Ayala for criticizing the club.
Valencia made the decision at an emergency board meeting, it said in a brief statement on its Web site on Saturday.
Ayala expressed a desire to leave Valencia on Friday because he felt "tricked" by club president Juan Soler and sports director Amedeo Carboni for their failure to offer him a new contract.
The 33-year-old also responded to reported interest from neighboring club Villarreal by saying he would welcome a move there because he would be better appreciated.
Ayala, who played for Argentina in the World Cup, joined Valencia in 2000 from AC Milan and has helped the club win two Spanish league titles as well as the UEFA Cup.
