Murinho bemoans Crespo injury (25 Dec 2005 22:18 GMT)
Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo has continued to put his future at Stamford Bridge in jeopardy by reportedly ignoring a request to return to Chelsea for treatment on his injured calf.
Crespo picked up the injury in Argentina's 3-2 loss to England, and the problem has become a catalyst for a war of words between Mourinho and Argentina boss Jose Pekerman.
"National teams prepare in such a disparate way that it's hard to find criterion beyond criticism," said Mourinho. "Argentina were looking for a European opponent with a different playing style to those it meets in South America. But then they are going to Qatar, returning their players to their clubs one day before the weekend's competitions. Once more there is confusion, once more I have my heart in my mouth."
But Pekerman is adamant that it was Crespo's lack of first-team action at Chelsea that caused the injury. "His injury came through not playing regularly," said the Argentina coach. "If he was fitter and playing regularly, it would not have happened. It's still early in the season and we've spoken about it but I only hope that he plays more games for Chelsea for the rest of the season."
