Ayala opts to remain with Valencia (1 Sep 2006 18:13 GMT)
Argentina defender Roberto Ayala has patched up his differences with Valencia and committed himself to the Primera Liga club.
The 33-year-olddefender asked for a move earlier in the month after accusing the management of going back on a promise to give him a contract extension.
"Ayala will remain fully committed to this club until at least June 2007," said Valencia in a statement following a meeting between the player and president Juan Bautista Soler.
"During the season we will re-open negotiations on a possible contract extension. The player confirms he has no future commitments to join another club."
Villarreal and Real Madrid were reported to have been interested in signing Ayala, who joined Valencia from AC Milan in 2000.
He played a vital role in helping the club reach the Champions League final in 2001, win the Spanish league title in 2002 and win both the league and UEFA Cup in 2004.
