Julio Cruz made his return to the pitch in Thursday's Sky Trophy match against Atalanta, held to honour the memory of Giacinto Facchetti. The Argentine striker, who played 66 minutes in Bergamo, had been out of action since sustaining a muscular injury in training on Sunday 10 September.
"I feel good now after a long time out," Cruz told Inter Channel. "I'm still not one hundred percent but it went well against Atalanta and the friendly was useful to help me gain match fitness. So I can say that I have recovered, and now I have to work to reach the best condition possible. My only regret is that Cambiasso picked up a muscle strain after a period in which we were working together to recover from our respective injuries."
Cruz continued: "I am really disappointed I was out for these twenty-five days during which we had some important matches. Not being able to play and help the team has been very hard for me. I have really missed the pitch. It's just as well this break has come so we can work and at the same time rest a bit ahead of the upcoming important games that await us. Our goals are to progress in the Champions League and regain first place in the championship."
All the things that have been said about Inter in recent days? "It's true. There's disappointment because in some cases too much is said and many fans listen too much to these things that are said and written," Cruz replied. "We are just at the start of a long and hard season, what counts is being in front of everyone at the end of the year. We have some important obligations towards ourselves, the club and the fans. We want to win the Scudetto and do very well in the Champions League."
