Ayala backs West Ham stars to make grade (15 Oct 2006 18:11 GMT)
Argentina captain Roberto Fabian Ayala has defended international team-mates Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez, insisting that it is only a matter of time before they show their true form for West Ham.
The 33-year-old Valencia defender, who has played in Europe since 1995, said: "It's always difficult in the beginning for us. When you first come to play here you have to change your game and adapt to the lifestyle. The leagues are very competitive and they will have to get used to it but they won't have a problem in the long-term: they are tough characters. I know both of them well. I have spoken to them and I am absolutely convinced they have the right personality and all the qualities to succeed."
