Barcelona's teenage Argentine sensation Lionel Messi has been ruled out of this week's Copa del Rey match against Badalona with an ankle injury. He suffered the injury during Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu and will not have recovered in time for Wednesday's cup clash.
Barca boss Frank Rijkaard faces a struggle to get the talented youngster fit for the weekend match against Recreativo and - crucially - the Champions League face-off with Chelsea at the Camp Nou next week.
Barcelona are already without the last two seasons' top scorer Samuel Eto'o although Javier Saviola has returned to the first-team after staying to fight for his place after returning from loan at Sevilla in the summer.
