Argentina defender Juan Pablo Sorín may miss the remainder of Hamburger SV's Champions League campaign after tearing a muscle in his right thigh.
The 30-year-old, a summer signing from Villarreal CF, sustained the injury during Saturday's 1-0 Bundesliga defeat at northern rivals VfL Wolfsburg. Coach Thomas Doll had hoped it was just a pulled muscle, but scans have confirmed a tear, meaning Sorín will be out of action for up to four weeks.
Sorín is sure to sit out Hamburg's Matchday 5 trip to Arsenal FC and possibly the Matchday 6 visit of PFC CSKA Moskva, having played in three Group G games to date. Hamburg will be eliminated from European competition at the end of the group stage, having yet to register a point in the pool and trailing third-placed FC Porto by seven points with six to play for.
