Tevez: Pardew should have gone sooner (18 Dec 2006 17:45 GMT)

Carlos Tevez has launched a scathing attack on former West Ham boss Alan Pardew after insisting he should have been sacked sooner.

The Hammers have lost five of their six games which led to Pardew being axed on Monday with Alan Curbishley being named as his successor.

"I was surprised to see how long Pardew held on to the job in the end," Tevez told the News of the World newspaper. "In Argentina or Brazil he would have been out long ago. It was clear the team did not react as he wanted - it wasn't going right."

The 22-year-old added that he was never given a chance to play in his correct position.

"I had to sacrifice myself for the team, which I don't think helped. I was playing in ways I did not understand well and I lost a lot from my own game," Tevez said. "It didn't fit where he put me but I wanted to help, I don't think he had a clear idea about my game or what to do."

"He was a good football man," he added. "But more suited to coaching English teams without foreign players with big reputations."
