Racing in for Cavenaghi (2 Jan 2007 20:30 GMT)
Racing Santander have expressed an interest in signing Spartak Moscow's Argentinian striker Fernando Cavenaghi.
Cavenaghi joined the Russian side in 2005, but has failed to settle in the capital, igniting interest from Racing.
"We have been following Cavenaghi since his time in Argentina," Racing boss Miguel Angel Portugal said. "And now would be the perfect time to bring him to Spain."
Other clubs are thought to be tracking the 23-year-old, including Benfica, Roma, Celta Vigo and Marseille, but Spartak have reportedly made it clear that where Cavenaghi ends up will very much depend on money.
Cavenaghi started his career at River Plate, where be netted 57 times in 84 appearances. That form led him to Europe but after just seven goals in 24 games during his debut year, rumours began to surface of his departure.
