Messi: Indebted to the National Team (5 Jan 2007 10:14 GMT)

In an interview on Argentinian paper La Nación, Lionel Messi gives details of his recovery process, reflects on year 2006 and talks about his country's National Team:

"I'm home with my family, feeling really calm. I am not annoyed about my injury any more. I got off my crutches a couple of days back, I can walk normally now. A physio from FC Barcelona is about to come here, and we will start an intensive recuperation programme in Arroyo Seco."

"2006 has been a year full of new things for me. Some of them were nicer than others. I won many titles with Barça and made my debut in a World Cup; on the other hand, I suffered two serious injuries and had to stay off the pitches for a long time."

"I feel that I'm indebted to the National Team and to Coco (Alfio Basile, Argentina's coach). I'm so eager to play for my country and to do it well; I want to perform for Argentina at the same level I do for Barcelona."

"We all must think what's best for the National Team, and not pay so much attention to whether the players are in Argentinian clubs or playing abroad. We'll all be happy to see Argentina do well."
