Carlos Tevez voted Latin America's player of the year (30 Dec 2005 04:49 GMT)

Argentine striker, Carlos Tevez, has been crowned (by prestigious daily newspaper "El Pais" from Uruguay) the best footballer of Latin America 2005. He won this award for the 3rd time in row.

He gathered 77 pts and overtook Uruguayan Diego Lugano (FC Sao Paulo) 54 pts and Brazilian Cicinho (FC Sao Paulo/Real Madrid) 37 pts.

In the poll participated some 200 journalists from newspapers, magazines and news agencies from South America.

Also, club partner Media Sports Investment, which owns Carlitos' rights, announced that "there's no possibility Tevez will go to Chelsea or to any other club. He won't leave for any amount of money."

Tevez, who has a contract with Corinthians until 2009, finished the season as the team's leading scorer with 30 goals. He scored 20 in the Brazilian league - two fewer than leader Romario.

MSI, which invested millions of dollars in Corinthians, spent more than $20 million US last December to acquire the striker from Argentina's Boca Juniors. It was criticized at the time by many, who said Tevez was not worth the cost.

The doubts were quickly gone, however, as Tevez put Corinthians en route to its fourth national title.
