Arruabarrena to leave Villarreal at season's end (14 Feb 2007 06:39 GMT)
Villarreal left-back Rodolfo Arruabarrena will leave the club when his contract finishes at the end of the season.
"I have decided to announce I won't be continuing at Villarreal because I see many doubts at the club. Because of this, I have decided to continue my career somewhere else," Arruabarrena was quoted as saying Tuesday by the Web site of Marca.
Villarreal has struggled in a season overshadowed by a dispute between coach Manuel Pellegrini and Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme. Riquelme left last week to join Boca Juniors on a six-month loan.
The club has instigated further changes.
Valencia's Argentine defender Roberto Ayala will join at the end of the season, while three younger South Americans have recently been acquired - Chilean midfielders Matias Fernandez and Mathias Vidangossy, together with Uruguayan defender Martin Caceres.
Arruabarrena, an Argentina international who joined Villarreal from Boca in 2000, played an important role in the Spanish club's rise in European soccer.
The 31-year-old helped Villarreal reach the UEFA Cup semifinals in 2004 and the Champions League semifinals two years later.
