Argentines Almeyda, Flores sign with Norwegian side Lyn (5 Apr 2007 09:08 GMT)
Former Argentina international Matias Almeyda has come out of retirement to sign for Norwegian club Lyn.
Almeyda, 33, played in two World Cups in 1998 and 2002 but announced his retirement from professional soccer in 2005 after stints with Brescia, Inter Milan, Parma and Lazio in Italy, and Spain's Sevilla.
Another Argentine, Jose Flores, will also come out of retirement to play for top-division Lyn. Flores' former clubs include Las Palmas and Deportivo La Coruna in Spain.
Almeyda said he and the 34-year-old Flores "fell in love" with Norway during a visit last year with a team of former Argentine stars, led by soccer great Diego Maradona.
"Now that we also get a chance to play football at a high level, we thought it was worth a shot," Almeyda was quoted on Lyn's website.
The club said the two players will train in Argentina before joining the team in May.
"It's great that they have signed, but I will not be satisfied until I see them perform in the Lyn uniform," Lyn sports director Torgeir Bjarmann said.
Sounds a little like late Prima Aprilis joke, but we'll see.
