Tevez expresses happiness for Uruguyan award (3 Jan 2006 18:20 GMT)
Argentina's soccer star Carlos Tevez told Uruguayan newspaper El Pais that he felt tremendous happiness on Monday when told the paper's continent-wide survey has chosen him as the best player in South America.
Tevez, named King of South America for the third year in a row, said the honor was very important to him because it recognized all the efforts he had made this year.
"When you receive something like this from the journalists from a whole continent, the first thing you think is: they have recognized all I have done and they value it," said Tevez, one of Brazilian league team Corinthians's most creative players. "Winning the award for the third consecutive year was doubly satisfying because it showed I was maintaining my footballing skills".
The 2006 edition is the 20th version of the survey, which speaks to 200 sports journalists from newspapers, magazines and agencies across South America. The results were published on December 30.
