River Plate negotiate with Newell's for Belluschi and Ortega (4 Jan 2006 07:45 GMT)

Argentine giants River Plate has had some complications with the negotiations of possible signings Ariel Ortega and Fernando Belluschi of Newell's Old Boys.

Although officials of River and Newell's met in Buenos Aires on Monday they were unable to come to an agreement, and it is unknown whether the two players will leave Rosario.

According to reports River officials are not willing to pay €5 million for Belluschi, although he has been their main transfer priority of the Summer.

If River are unable to sign the player it is likely that he will move to bitter rivals Boca Juniors, who own half of his pass.

In recent days Boca president Mauricio Macri stated: "I wouldn't like if he goes to River, but Lopez told me that if someone is willing to pay &cuero;5 million he will not hesitate to sell him".

Former River midfielder Ariel Ortega is the clubs next transfer target, and it is likely that they will snap him up for €3 million in the next couple of weeks. In recent months the player has stated that he will like to end his career at the club.
