One of the greatest soccer classics will go back to being part of the Copa America decision. As in 2004 and on another five occasions, Brazil and Argentina will define the South American title. Rivals since 1914, the year of the first game, the two countries have confronted each other 90 times in all history. Brazil, until now, has the advantage in the general overview. There are 35 wins, 22 ties and 33 losses. In goals, Argentina is a little better: 146 against 142 by the Brazilians.

Now in the Copa America, the superiority in the classic is Argentina. In 31 games, there were 15 wins against 8 ties and 8 Brazilian wins. Since 1916, the year of the first edition of the Copa America, Brazil and Argentina have already decided the tournament six times. The last one in Peru, in 2004, with a Brazilian win in the penalties, is the only one until now. In the other five finals, Argentina got the Cup. On these occasions (1925, 1937, 1946, 1957 and 1959), however, the games were not final, but served to decide the championship.

Recently, Brazil and Argentina confronted each other also in the Confederations Cup final, in Germany, in 2005. Brazil won by 4-1 and conquered the title. In 2006, at the debut of trainer Dunga and Alfio Basile, Brazil beat Argentina again: 3-0, with two goals by Elano and one by Kaká.
