Jose Pekerman's name came up often during the United States' search for a national team coach. According to the former Argentina manager, he was contacted by the U.S. Soccer Federation, but he wasn't ready to coach a national team again.
"I missed club play," Pekerman said. "I had been with national teams for 12 years. You don't always have the players with you. With club, you're with them every day. I missed that. Obviously, talks could have kept going, but I didn't want to lead them on. A national team needs to get on with its search quickly. I preferred to say no and not extend it."
"I would never rule it out. The United States would be a good opportunity. I liked that they have a vision and clear goals. They know where they want to go. That's important. Maybe once my club phase passes, something could happen," he added.
