Boca Juniors soccer club returns to work without manager (5 Jan 2006 20:50 GMT)

Boca Juniors soccer club, the winner of Argentine's opening tournament and the Copa Sudamericana, started training on Tuesday without manager Alfio Basile and its main players, who will not start until Saturday, local press reported.

Pre-season training will take place in the mountain city of Tandil, in the southeast of Buenos Aires province.

Among the players who began their training on Tuesday were goalkeeper Ezequiel Medran and the wingers Pablo Ledesma, Guillermo Marino and Matias Donnet: who is famous for scoring Boca's goal against Italian league team Milan in the Tokyo 2003 Intercontinental Cup. Also training are the Paraguyan Claudio Morel Rodriguez, Matias Silvestre and Neri Cardoso.

Boca will play its first match of the new season against Racing Club, part of the five-way southern Summer competition.

The club, led by Mauricio Macri, is set to lose Rolando Schiavi and Marcelo Delgado, who are being sought by Spanish league club Hercules, although both transfers have yet to be completed due to disagreements about the price of the players.

Ten of Argentina's premier soccer clubs have already begun training, and six more will begin work by the end of this week.
