Real Mallorca midfielder Jonas Gutierrez has been ruled out of Argentina's opening World Cup qualifiers due to injury.
Gutierrez is struggling with a ligament injury and will miss the meeting with Chile on Sunday and Venezuela two days later.
Argentina coach Alfio Basile has yet to decide whether to call up a replacement, meaning his squad is temporarily reduced to 24.
"Jonas has stretched an inner ligament in his right leg, so he has been removed from the squad," said team doctor Homero De Agostino.
De Agostino also revealed defenders Daniel Diaz and Gabriel Milito are struggling with slight injuries, but are expected to be available.
