Argentina - Venezuela 2 - 0 (17 Oct 2007 10:06 GMT)

A headed from Gabriel Milito and excellent strike from Lionel Messi saw Argentina pick up a 2-0 win in Venezuela.

Two smart goals during a scrappy first half turned out to be enough for Argentina to pick up their second win of the World Cup Qualifiers.

The first came in the 15th minute when Gabriel Milito rose highest to head in a precise Riquelme free-kick, giving the visitors the lead much against the run of play. The second was a piece of Messi-magic. Carlos Tevez did well on the right before finding the diminutive Barca forward, who took a few deft touches to cut inside a couple of defenders, and let rip a 20 yard effort that went straight into the corner.

The second half was marred by a very nasty head injury suffered by Nicolas Burdisso. He was stretchered off in the second half after a clash of heads with Venezuela's Juan Arango in the 72nd minute. The Inter defender, who lost consciousness for several minutes, was taken to hospital where he received five stitches to a cut. Later Burdisso called Inter officials and the club's chief of medical staff this morning to reassure them about his state of health.

With his appearance against Venezuela, Zanetti equals Roberto Ayala's all time record of 115 Argentina caps.
